Deaz Mr. Schebler:
It has come to the attention of this department that you have recently constructed a deck on your
property at 1354 Rest Point Circle in Orono. This letter is to notify you that the City requires
building pernuts for the construction of decks. Therefore,the City must require you to remove the
deck or submit a building permit application along with building plans, a survey showing the
location of the deck and hardcover calculations. A review will be done, and if found to be in
compliance with building and zoning codes, a permit can be issued. A deadline of September 3,
1998 has been established for submittals. If this deadline is not met, the City will initiate legal
action. If you have any questions,please feel free to contact me at my office.

Dear Mr. Schebler:
On August 20, 1998 this office notified you of building permit requirements for a deck you
constructed on your property. As of this date, the deck has not been removed and the City has not
received a permit application. A new deadline of December 7, 1998 has been established. If this
deadline is not met, the City will file a formal complaint in Hennepin County District Court and a
court appearance will be required. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at my
office.

Re: Deck, your letter of August 20, 1998
Dear Lyle:
Sue and I would like to thank you for taking the time to meet with us last Monday to discuss the
recently constructed non-attached deck on our property at 1354 Rest Point Circle in Orono. We
now realize we were in error to construct the deck without going through the building permit
process. As we discussed with you and Elizabeth Van Zomeren(Liz) it appears the deck might
be over the average setback line and put us slightly over the hardcover limitation. We are in the
process of obtaining the necessary information to make a variance application and hope to have
this information available soon. I understand further contact should be made with Liz,the City
Planner/Zoning Administrator.
