A sign supported by a post or posts so that the sign and supports are finished to <br /> grade by encasing the posts in a material consistent with the sign and where the base width <br /> dimension is a minimum of ten percent up to and including 50 percent of the greatest width of the <br /> sign. <br /> (11) Monument signs. One monument sign, limited to finro faces is allowed per frontage per property, <br /> with a maximum of two. The areas of sign base, the supporting background structure, and the <br /> sign copy shall be combined for determining the total square footage and the height of the <br /> monument sign. <br /> a. The total allowable square footage shall not exceed 100 square feet per side. The base <br /> and supporting material shall constitute at least 25 percent of the total square footage. <br /> b. The base width dimension is 50 percent or more of the greatest width of the sign. <br /> c. The sign copy area shall have a minimum clearance of 20 inches above ground level. <br /> d. The sign copy area shall be completely enclosed within the monument materials. <br /> e. No portion of the sign or sign structure shall exceed ten feet above ground level. <br /> f. The monument sign base shall be constructed of materials similar in appearance to those <br /> of the principal structure and shall consist of brick, natural stone, stucco, textured cast <br /> stone, or integrally colored concrete masonry units. The structure surrounding the face of <br /> the sign from the base to the top of the sign must be solid, continuous, and consist of the <br /> base materials or complementary materials that match the appearance and color of the <br /> principal building. <br /> g. The 200 square feet of ground area around the base of the monument sign shall be <br /> landscaped with shrubs or perennials. <br /> (Code 1984, § 10.61(1); Ord. Signs in R districts. <br /> Within R districts, the following signs are permitted: <br /> (1) Nameplates. <br /> a. One nameplate sign for each dwelling, and such sign shall not exceed two square feet in <br /> area per surface, and no sign shall be so constructed as to have more than two surfaces. <br /> b. One nameplate sign for each dwelling group of six or more units, and such sign shall not <br /> exceed six square feet in area per surface, and no sign shall be so constructed as to <br /> have more than two surfaces. <br /> c. One nameplate sign for each permitted use or use by conditional permit other than <br /> residential, and such sign shall not exceed 12 square feet in area per surtace. <br /> (2) lllumination. Symbols, statues, sculptures and integrated architectural features on nonresidential <br /> buildings may be illuminated by floodlights provided the direct source of light is not visible from <br /> the public right-of-way or adjacent residential district. • <br /> (3) Setbacks. Any sign over one-half square foot shall be set back at least five feet from any property <br /> line. No sign shall exceed eight feet in height above the average grade level. Signs may be <br /> illuminated, but such lighting shall be diffused or indirect. <br /> (4) Home occupations. One nameplate sign containing name and address but not to contain <br /> business name or type of business, and such sign shall not exceed two square feet in area per <br /> surface, nor contain more than finro surfaces. <br /> (Code 1984, § 10.61(2); Ord.
