Samples <br /> were observed at 30X and suspect fibers were picked from the bulk samples and observed under <br /> polarized light microscopy. The fibers were then evaluated under crossed polars for extinction angle, <br /> sign of elongation, and morphology. Dispersion staining techniques using different Cargille liquids and <br /> observing colors at two different orientations of the crystal were then performed. <br /> Analysis was performed according to EPA method 600/R-93/116. This method detects asbestos in <br /> volumetric concentrations of 1% or greater.
