MINUTES OF THE <br /> ORONO CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br /> Tuesday,March 20,2018 <br /> 7:00 o'clock p.m. <br /> PLANNING DEPARTMENT REPORT—Continued <br /> Printup moved,Crosby seconded,to appoint Mark McCutchen and James Seals as alternates to the <br /> Orono Planning Commission and to appoint Bob Erickson,Dennis Libby,and John Ressler each to <br /> a three-year term on the Orono Planning Commission. <br /> Crosby stated all the candidates were outstanding and have a passion to serve the community. Crosby <br /> stated his decision not to appoint James Seals to a regular commissioner position has more to do with <br /> public perception than anything else and that he is extremely well qualified and will still have ample <br /> opportunity to serve the community as an alterate. <br /> Dankey stated her top candidate was James Seals and that she would prefer he be appointed to a regular <br /> commissioner position but that having him as an alternate is a good option. Dankey stated she also felt <br /> Mark McCutchen would be a very good Planning Commissioner and that she would prefer he be in the <br /> mix as one of the three regular commissioners. <br /> Walsh noted Dennis Libby had commented it was because of the change and recent makeup of the City <br /> Council that caused him to have more interest in serving on the Planning Commission. Walsh noted <br /> Orono has had trouble in the past recruiting people to apply for the Planning Commission but that an <br /> environment has been created where people want to be involved in doing lots of positive things. <br /> VOTE: Ayes 3,Nays 1,Seals Abstained. <br /> MAYOR/COUNCIL REPORT <br /> Dankey stated she is thankful it has been a quieter week and that it is time for spring break. <br /> Crosby commented he is looking forward to getting away on spring break. <br /> Seals commended the Orono hockey team for their great win at the state tournament. <br /> Printup thanked all the applicants that applied to the Planning Commission. <br /> Walsh reported there was a Big Island Steering Committee last week and that they are looking at various <br /> improvements that can be made to the park. <br /> Walsh noted the City recently hired a golf course and park superintendent who will be paying more <br /> attention to the parks. Walsh stated the City has issued 280 permits for Lurton Dog Park already this year <br /> and that they had issued 500 last year. <br /> Walsh reported there was also a police commission meeting a couple of weeks ago and that the police <br /> cars will now be equipped with Narcan so they will be prepared for any drug overdoses. Walsh stated it <br /> is all about protecting the Orono community and citizens. <br /> CITY ADMINISTRATOR'S REPORT <br /> Rief stated the police department did have an incident in Mound where the officers had to use the Narcan <br /> and that those officers will be publicly recognized in the near future. <br /> Page 2 of 3 <br />
