Testing of high strength bolting, fillet weld and partial penetration weld testing will
be waived if fabrication shop satisfies AISC Quality Certification Program-
Category I,or more stringent criteria,or is approved by building official and SER.
a. SER and Building Official will reinstate shop welding test requirements if work
is considered questionable through visual observation of an ITL.
PART 3 EXECUTION
3.1 ERECTION
A. Erect structural steel in accordance with reviewed shop drawings,AISC Specification and
Code of Standard Practice.
B. Provide temporary shoring and bracing as required during erection.
C. Install high strength bolts in conformance with AISC Specification for Structural Joints
using ASTM A325 or A490 Bolts. If Tension Control Bolts or Load Indicator Bolts are
used bolts shall be installed following recommendations of manufacturer. Hardened steel,
round, flat washer shall be used under each nut and bolts shall be tightened until wrench
twists off spliced ends.
D. Install headed shear connector studs in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and
AWS Structural Welding Code.
E. Do not field cut openings through structural steel members for passage of conduit, pipes,
or ducts without obtaining written permission from Architect. Wherever permission is
given, provide openings and additionally reinforce member as directed by Architect.
F. Clean concrete and masonry bearing surfaces below steel base and bearing plates of any
bond-reducing materials. Clean bottom surfaces of base and bearing plates. Set plates at
correct elevations by using steel wedges, shims, adjustable nuts or other devices. Pack
specified non-shrink grout solidly between bearing surfaces and plates to insure that no
voids remain.Mix,install, protect and cure grout in accordance with manufacturer's
instructions.
G.
