PART 2 SCOPE OF TESTING AND INSPECTION <br /> 2.1 SPECIAL STRUCTURAL TESTING AND INSPECTION REQUIREMENTS <br /> A. Item and Frequency(Section 03200-Concrete Reinforcement)(Qualifications in <br /> parentheses): <br /> 1. Inspect reinforcement in all cast in place concrete, excluding slabs on grade, footings <br /> without transverse reinforcement, and topping slabs. (Structural I) <br /> a. Verify reinforcing bar grade <br /> b. Verify reinforcing bars are free of dirt, excessive rust and damage <br /> c. Verify reinforcing bars are adequately tied, chaired and supported to prevent <br /> displacement during concrete placement <br /> d. Verify proper clear distances between bars and to surfaces of concrete <br /> e. Verify reinforcing bar size and placement <br /> f. Verify bar laps for proper length and stagger and bar bends for minimum <br /> diameter, slope and length. <br /> g. Verify mechanical splices are placed in accordance with the plans, specifications <br /> and reviewed shop drawings <br /> h. Verify epoxy coating is present at locations noted on the plans and specifications, <br /> include tie wires, chairs, bolsters, etc. Verify coating damage is repaired in <br /> accordance with the contract documents. <br /> B. Item and Frequency(Section 03300)- Cast-In-Place Concrete) (Qualifications in <br /> parentheses): <br /> 1. Sample and test all cast in place concrete. (Technical I) <br /> a. Prepare compression test specimens(ASTM C31), one set of four standard <br /> cylinders of concrete for each compressive strength test, mold and store cylinders <br /> for laboratory cured specimens. <br /> b. Perform compressive strength tests(ASTM C39). One set of four cylinders for <br /> each day's pour between one and 25 cubic yards. If a day's pour exceeds 25 cubic <br /> yards, one set of four cylinders for each additional 50 cubic yards, or fraction <br /> thereof. One specimen at seven days,two at 28 days and one specimen retained <br /> in reserve for later testing if required. For post tensioned concrete, make and test <br /> an additional cylinder at three days to verify strength prior to stressing.
