CITY of ORONO
Pbst Office Box 666 C[ySfal Bay,Mionesoffi
592344
lqx ,0.g,`Y
S
March 30, 1994
Mrs. Dawn Hammarberg
4081 Oak Street
Long Lake, Minnesota 55356
Re: Vacation of Alley
Dear Mrs. Hammarberg:
I would offer the following comments regarding your inquiry as to potential vacation of the alley
in which your driveway is located:
1. There are no City utilities within that alley. However, other utility providers may
have lines there for which we have no records. These might include gas,
telephone, electric, and cable TV. Those providers would be notified of any
proposed vacation application.
2. The Hennepin County Property Description Office has confirmed that if the alley
is vacated, it automatically reverts back to ownership of the adjacent properties.
Therefore, in order for you to gain control of the entire alley, you would have
to convince your neighbors to deed to you their respective portions. This would
be entirely up to you to accomplish, and would technically require a subdivision
approval by the City to separate that land from the neighboring properties.
3. Given the above "roadblocks" to accomplishing your purpose, proceeding with
a vacation application may be a waste of your time. However, I am sending
along the appropriate application should you wish to proceed. '
4. It is very likely that Public Works Director John Gerhardson would grant you
permission to pave your driveway within the alley absent the vacation process.
TELEPHONE-473-7357•FAX-473-0510
