-2-
3. Members are nailed together with 16 penny power gun nails.
At the intersection of the lower chord members, a block has
been installed between the two chords to tie them together
since they are not in adjacent planes.
4. A structural engineering analysis was completed by me using
design loads as required by the Minnesota State Building Code.
The analysis indicated that the truss members are adequate in
size. The connections between the members require 6 - 16 penny
power nails each connection between chord members except at
the ridge existing nailing is adequate. At the block member
6 nails are required from each side into the block member to
adequately transfer the load between the two bottom chords.
5. The owner was directed to complete this work in accordance with
this document.
6. The building inspection department of Orono was informed of
this information and will provide follow-up inspections as
required.
SUMMARY
7. Based on the above information, the scissors truss as constructed
with connections as noted is structurally adequate and meets the
design requirements of the Minnesota State Building Code.
If you have any questions, please contact me.
Sincerely,
John H.
