• BOLTON M N K , I NC
. Consulting Engineers & Sunreyors
  2638 Shadow Lane, Suite 200•Chaska, MN 55318-1172
Phone(952)448-8838• Fax(952)448-8805
www.boiton-menk.com
Juty g,2014
City of Orono
Attn: Melanie Curtis
2750 Kelley Parkway
Orono, MN 55356
RE: Building Permit Number 13-00471
4315 North Shore Drive
Engineering Review#1
Dear Melanie:
As requested, we have completed an engineering review of the documents submitted for the above
referenced project. Our current review is based on the following submittal items:
• Final Construction Plans prepared by SKD Architects, dated 6/5/2013
• Certificate of Survey prepared by Gronberg&Associates, Inc., dated 7/30/2013
We offer the following observations, comments, and recommendations for your consideration:
1. The plans show grading work outside the proposed silt fence line. Any proposed silt fence should be
installed outside the construction]imits.
2. The plans show a loose laid retaining wall on the west side of the pool, and appear to indicate
retaining walls in other locations around the pool,as well as near the detached garage, for which no
plans have been submitted. Retaining walls four feet or greater in height must be designed by a
Professional Engineer, and plans submitted for review and approval. The plan should be revised to
provide more detail for all proposed retaining wall work. Provide top of wall and bottom of wall
elevations in key locations(i.e. grade changes and alignment changes).
3. Perimeter erosion control devices should be installed and inspected by the City prior to any land
disturbing activities.
4. Disturbed areas should be permanently stabilized within 7 days of completing construction.
5. The proposed pool has a footprint of 512 square feet. Any pools larger than 1,000 square feet are
subject to special setback restrictions(Sec. 78-1404).
Please let me know if you have any questions or need additional information.
Sincerely,
BOLTON & MENK, INC.

Brian D. Simmons, P.E.
Project Engineer
