 SECTION 15200
INSULATION

1.00 GENERAL
 A. Insulation shall be applied to clean dry piping and ductwork.
 B. Materials
1. All insulation shall have composite (insulation, jacket, and/or facing and adhesive
used to adhere the facing or jacket to the insulation), fire and smoke hazard
ratings as tested by Procedure ASTM E-84, NFPA 225 and U/LI 723 not
exceeding Flame Spread 25 and Smoke Developed 50.
2. Jacket and Facing Descriptions
a. All purpose vapor barrier jackets.
 b. VB vapor barrier, white kraft bonded to 1 mil aluminum foil, reinforced
with glass yarn. Water vapor permeability 0.02 perms.
c. FSK reinforced foil and paper (Foil Scrim Kraft). Aluminum foil
(minimum 0.75 mil thick) reinforced with fiber glass yard mesh and
laminated to 40 lbs. chemically treated fire resistant Kraft UL rated.
C. Ductwork
 1. External rigid board insulation shall be equal to Owens Corning 703 Series with
FRK (ASJ) vapor barrier facing, 1 1/2 Ib. density fiberglass complete with non-
combustible foil faced vapor barrier. Entire system shall be UL listed. External
wrap insulation shall be 1 lb. densiry.
2. Provide continuous vapor barrier over all seams.
3. The following are the insulation types and thicknesses:
a. The outside air ductwork to FU-1 and the intake plenum shall be insulated
with 1" foil faced rigid board fiberglass insulation (this includes the mixing
box and/or sections of mixed air duct).
b. All exhaust ducts shall be insulated from the relief hood, PRV or wall
penetration to a point 5' within the building with 1" wrapped insulation on
round ducts and 1" rigid board insulation on all other ducts.
c. All FLT ductwork shall be insulated with 1" foil faced rigid board or wrap
fiberglass insulation for ducts less than 1 square foot, larger than 1 square
foot shall be insulated with 1 1/2".
D. Kitchen Exhaust Ductwork
 1. Provide UL classified, 2 hour rated duct wrap enclosure equal to 3M
"Firemaster". The system shall be rated for 2300°F, and be a refractory ceramic
fiber blanket. Apply a two layer, wrap installation in accordance with the
manufacturers recommendations. Final installed thickness shall be 3".
E. Above Ground Piping
1. Piping shall be insulated with Manville (Owens-Corning, Knau "FL,AME
SAFE" fiber glass insulation, or approved equal. The insulation shall have an
average thermal conductivity not exceeding 0.22 BTU in. per sq. ft. per °F. hour
at mean temperature of 75° F.
 2. Exposed areas shall be furnished with factory applied "FL.AME SAFE"
All-Purpose Vapor barrier jacket.
3. Concealed areas with factory applied "FLAME SAFE" VB (Vapor Barrier Jacket
 or All-Purpose Jacket).
4.
