MINUTES OF THE <br /> ORONO CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br /> Monday,September 25,2017 <br /> 7:00 o'clock p.m. <br /> CONSENT AGENDA-ConNnued <br /> 18. ORONO WOODS DEVELOPMENT AGREEMENT AMENDMENT <br /> PUBLIC COMMENTS <br /> None <br /> MAYOR/COUNCIL REPORT <br /> Seals reported there was another cleanup of Big Island over the weekend,with the volunteers also <br /> clearing the back steps on Big Island. Seals stated Big Island continues to be a work in progress and there <br /> will be more improvements to come. <br /> Crosby stated he attended the memorial service for Officer Matthews on September 13 and that he would <br /> like to let the community know how impressed he was with how everyone rallied around the family. <br /> Crosby stated Officer Matthews will not be forgotten,noting that firefighters and police officers have a <br /> special bond with each other and that he hopes years from now people do not forget his sacrifice for the <br /> residents and the local communities. <br /> Walsh encouraged people to visit Big Island. <br /> Walsh noted the City Council recently approved a used flag acceptance box as an Eagle Scout project for <br /> Jason Brew with Troop 206. Walsh stated the dedication ceremony was held this past weekend and that <br /> pictures of the event aze on Orono's Facebook site. <br /> Walsh reported the Parks Commission also recommended approval of another Eagle Scout project which <br /> will be moving forward. Walsh commented Orono has a number of people that are giving back to their <br /> community and that the City appreciates their efforts. <br /> Walsh stated he was at Birch's on Sunday for the First Annual Long Lake Rowing Club Mayoral <br /> Challenge and that the event was lots of fun. Walsh stated pictures of that event are on the Long Lake <br /> Rowing Club's Facebook site as well as Orono's Facebook site. <br /> CITY ADMINISTRATOR'S REPORT <br /> 15. ADOPTION OF 2018 PRELIMINARY BUDGET AND LEVY RESOLUTION NO.6793& <br /> RESOLUTION NO.6794 <br /> Olson noted this item was discussed in depth at the September 11 City Council meeting where the <br /> preliminary tax levy and preliminary general fund budget was proposed. Olson noted after tonight the tax <br /> levy can only be decreased and not increased. The final budget and levy will be set December 11,2017, <br /> which is also the night of Orono's Truth-in-Taxation meeting. Olson stated public input will be allowed <br /> prior to final adoption that evening. <br /> Olson noted the only change from the presentation on September 11 is that the Pavement Management <br /> Levy was decreased from$500,000 to$383,000,which resulted in a tax rate decrease from 16.882 <br /> percent to 16.529 percent. <br /> Page 2 of 3 <br />
