National Wetland Inventory (NWI) map, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources 2014
update (Figure 2), Web Soil Survey of Hennepin County map (Figure 3), Minnesota Public
Waters Inventory map (Figure 4), and 2014 aerial photographs were reviewed prior to the site
visit to identify areas that may be wetlands. The two parcels were searched for areas illustrating
evidence of wetland conditions. Vegetation, soils and hydrology were examined (as outlined in
the 1987 Manual) to characterize wetland types and determine wetland boundaries. No sample
transects were established since no areas with wetland characteristics were observed on the two
parcels.
RESULTS
The National Wetland Inventory indicates the presence of no wetlands within the survey area
(Figure 2).
The Web Soil Survey of Hennepin County (Figure 3) identifies three soil map units present on
the subject property. The Lester-Metea complex, 12 to 18 percent slopes, eroded soil is
categorized as predominantly nonhydric, the Crowfork loamy sand, 1 to 6 percent slopes is
nonhydric, and the Udorthents, wet substratum, 0 to 2 percent slopes is not rated. The soil series
descriptions are provided in the Technical Documents section.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, State Protected Waters Map (Public Water
Inventory) indicates Lake Minnetonka-Crystal Bay (ID#27-133) as slightly within the study area
(Figure 4).
Site Visit
SER ecologists examined the subject property for areas meeting defined wetland criteria during the
site visit. No area meeting the defined criteria of a wetland were flagged(Figure 5).
Accumulated precipitation prior to the 11/03/15 site review shows field work was conducted
under wetter than normal conditions, according the Minnesota Climatology Working Group. The
months of September and August received "normal" rainfall totals of 3.80" and 3.11"
respectively. October rainfall (3.29") was slightly wetter than the normal range of 1.42"to 2.94".
Precipitation from April l, 2015 to November 3, 2015 as recorded at the Chanhassen WSFO totaled
27.17"which is 2.62" above normal with average recorded temperatures to date of 60.8 degrees F for
the same period. The average is just slightly above normal by 0.7 degrees F.
DISCUSSION
SER completed the on-site evaluation based on the three required technical criteria as outlined by
the 1987 Manual: the presence of hydric soils, a predominance of hydrophytic vegetation, and
indicators of wetland hydrology in the basin. The site evaluation was done on November 3, 2015.
SER personnel examined the subject property for areas meeting defined wetland criteria during
the site visit and determined no wetlands based on the technical criteria present(Figure 5).
A set of figures is provided in the Figures section.
Svoboda Ecological Resources 2 2445&2455
North Shore Dr
Project Number: 2015-043 Orono,MN
