,
. . .
NOTCH
ENGINEERING
CO1250 Morningview Drive
■ Mound, Minnesota 55364
(612)472-5566 RECEtVED
April 28 , 1994 MAY 2 1994
Mr . Lyle Oman , Building Official C'TYAFORONO
City of Orono
P.O. Box 66
Crystal Bay, Minnesota 55323
Re : Mr. Stankovski ' s Residence - Screen Porch Addition
1290 Lyman Avenue , Orono, Minnesota
Mr. Oman,
Notch Engineering Co. reviewed the wood roof trusses for
the above referenced residence addition in order to determine
if the roof would be structurally adequate . The construction
plans were prepared by Mr. Michael Sharratt and are dated
December 10 , 1993 .
The trusses consist of 6x12 main ridge beams from opposite
corners of the porch to the center peak and a 6x6 secondarti
brace beams connecting the ridge beams at mid span. The roof
slopes at 5 3/4" in 12" to match the slope of the existing
residence . Refer to the construction drawings for plan
dimensions and details .
We found the sizes of the roof beams to be adequate if western
cedar select structural grade or douglas fir no . 1 grade woods
are used in the construction. The four ridge beams that meet
at the peak are to be connected with 3/16" thick bent steel
plates with two 1/2" diameter bolts per beam. The connection
between the ridge beams and the secondar,y brace beams shall be
a pair of 3/16" thick steel plates with three 5/8" diameter
bolts per beam. Refer to Detail "A" on the attached sheet for
the specifics on this connection. The secondary brace beams
are to be notched at the intersection point to allow an
uninterrupted 3" x fi" section to pass through. Four Angles
4" x 4" x 1/4" with a length of 5 1/2" shall be bolted through
the secondary brace beams with two 1/2" diameter bolts at the
intersection of the beams .
Notch Engineering ' s review was limited to the addition' s wood
roof truss s,ystem only. Review of the remainder of the
addition and the existing residence was not in our scope of
work and was not performed.
If you have any questions or comments on this wall please feel
free to contact me .
Sincerely yours ,
%i' n
Thomas E.
