cathartica), ironwood (Ostrya virginiana), green ash (Fraxinus pennsylvanica), bur oak
(Quercus macrocarpa), and basswood(Tilia Americana).
The wetland boundary was placed along the vegetation transition zone; there was an
abrupt shift in vegetation between the sedge and loosestrife (hydrophytic) and the
common buckthorn (non-hydrophytic). A mild topographic break was observed along
the wetland boundary; the boundary was placed at or near the foot of the slope.
Additionally, soil was saturated at the surface and water was observed at 12" below the
soil surface within the wetland sample point; the soil was saturated at 16" and water
observed at 26" below the soil surface in the upland sample point.
According to the City of Orono and Minnehaha Creek Watershed District, the wetland is
classified as a "Preserve" wetland; a Preserve wetland requires a 50' wetland buffer and
20' setback from the wetland buffer(total of 70').
Discussion
One wetland basin was delineated within the subject parcel. Wetland 1 is described as a
Shallow Marsh (Type 3, PEMC) wetland and is dominated by cattail, sedge, loosestrife,
and willow. Wetland 1 was delineated by approximately 29 pinflags.
In order to be official the wetland delineation must be reviewed and approved by the
Local Government Unit (LGL and potentially other agencies (Local, State, Federal).
AEC recommends that the wetland boundary be located by a Professional Land Surveyor
or located by a survey grade GPS unit. Any work within or adjacent to a wetland will
require Wetland Conservation Act(WCA)permits (and potentially other permits). Please
consult with AEC if you plan on filling, draining, excavating wetlands within your
project location. If you have any questions regarding this report or any questions about
our services please feel free to contact Ben Carlson at any time(612-237-5996).
Thank you,
Ben Carlson
Ben Carlson, WDC
EcologisdOwner
Arrowhead Environmental Consulting
2
