Chermak
125 Lake St. W.
Wayzata, MN 55391
RE: Septic System Site Plan for Lot 2, Block 1, WOODEND ACRES, Orono, MN.
Dear K.C.:
This proposed on-site septic system was designed for a 3 bedroom home, with an estimated flow of 450
gallons per day. Due to mottled soiis at a depth of 28" in the primary site, the primary will need to be a
mound system with 12" of sand under the rockbed at the upslope side. The site in which this system is
proposed has a average existing ground slope of 6%, and percolation rates ranging from 12-16 MPI. The
rock bed size will be 10 feet wide and 38 feet long with the overall dimensions of the primary mound
being 30.8 feet long and 56.0 feet wide.
A secondary septic system has been shown on the plan. This system will also need to be a mound
system. This system is laid-out on a average slope of approximately 8%. The city of Orono only allows
systems to be installed on 6% or less slopes. Over half of the secondary mound's down slope dike is on
a six percent slope but the average slope over the mound is 8%. A portion of this site has been driven
over and resulting in compacted soils and slow percolation. I would recommend completeing
numerous perc tests in this area to better delineate the disturbed area. I feel if additional testing verifies
that only a small area of the absorption area is disturbed it would be suitable for a mound if it is
installed as shown on the plan and the soils in the disturbed area are scarified to the maximum allowed
depth below the ground surface. This system will not need to be constructed unless the primary mound
fails.
Certain precautions will need to be made to further protect the areas in which the above referenced
septic systems are proposed. Both primary and alternate septic areas have been or will be staked off. It
is critical that the soil is not disturbed before, during, and after construction of the system.
Designing[he Future Today..since 1972
