FIELD REVIEW
Field Review
Wetland 1: Wetland 1 is a Type 2, PEMB fresh wet meadow. The wetland extends off-site to the south
and the on-site portion is approximately 0.03 acres in size. The wetland is primarily vegetated with reed
canary grass(Phalaris arundinacea) and spotted touch-me-nots(Impatiens capensis). The underlying soils
are mapped as Angus-Kilkenny soils. The investigated soil profile met the thick dark surface (Al2) hydric
soil indicators. Hydrology indicators observed include algal mat or crust (B4), geomorphic position (D2),
and the FAC-Neutral Test(D5).
The upland buffer surrounding the wetland consists of common buckthorn (Rhamnus cathartica), boxelder
(Acer negundo), reed canary grass (Phalaris arundinacea), and Virginia creeper (Parthenocissus
quinquefolia). Moderate slopes form the transition into the wetland.
The wetland is bordered by a berm about 18 inches high along the eastem edge, presumably a result of
the path cut from Bayside Road north to Lucy Line Trail, visible in aerial photographs. The historical
drainage pattern southwest to Bayside Road was disrupted by development and regrading of the
landscape of the neighboring lot to the south, as evidenced in aerial photographs.
Drained Area: The area upslope to the west of Wetland 1 is a drainage area for a sump pump and has
wetland characteristics. The vegetation is dominated by reed canary grass (Phalaris arundinacea) and the
soil met hydric soil indicators depleted below dark surface (A11) and redox dark surface (F8). No
hydrology indicators were observed at time of site visit. Aerial review of the area shows that no wetland
signatures were present before development of the area in 1989.
WETLAND INVESTIGATION 6
HO LUCE LINE RIDGE
ORONO,MINNESOTA
AuGusT 2014
