REGULAR MEETING OF THE ORONO COUNCIL, APRIL 25 , 1983 Page 5 <br /> Councilmember Grabek pointed out on the map the <br /> areas to be vacatecl and ret�ined and exp].ained <br /> the motion . The reserve area was pointed out to <br /> Mrs . Gregory anc3 explained that that was leftover <br /> property. The parking area was termed a toy that <br /> cannot be reached legally. A l�ase from the <br /> railroad wou_ld bn necessary for legal access to <br /> the parking l.ot . Parking wou]_d also be used on <br /> the east side of County Road 15 . <br /> Ci. ty Aclmini.strator Benson presented the City <br /> Council with a memo concerning various options <br /> f_or mai.ntenance and improvi.ng the parking area <br /> for Molly' s Corner dated April 25 , 1983 . <br /> Discussion incl_uded paving , striping , gate and <br /> guardrails . It was stated that the City would be <br /> 1i.able for any problAms if they bui]_t a parking <br /> lot there and the possibility of condoning the <br /> trespassing on private property by persons using <br /> the railroad property . <br /> Counci.lmem�er Adams star_ed that his motion at the <br /> previous Council meeting was not intended to <br /> incre�sz the parkinqare� orpermitthecontinued <br /> use for illegal purposes such as trespassing on <br /> private propnrty. <br /> Councitmember �rabekstated thathewouldlike to <br /> seethe parkingarealandscapedandbeautified by <br /> next spring . If it were done over a period of <br /> time , it would not come as a surprise to the <br /> persons usinq the parking lot when they come next <br /> spring �nd f.ind it closed to the publ. ic . <br /> Mr . Berg , �.ttorney f_or the Gregorys , presented a <br /> l�ase from Burlington I�Iorthern railroad . City <br /> ,�ttorney Malkerson checked over the lease and <br /> determined that the lease is not a signed lease , <br /> therefore , the lease w�s not accept�d . <br /> Mr . wAec3 stated that the corner is very dangerous <br /> and that many accidents occurred there . Mayor <br /> Butler informed Mr . Weed that Chief of Police <br /> Kilbo , at the first public hearing 'raef_ore the <br /> Planni.nq Commission , stated that no accidents <br /> occurrec� at that corner due to the parking lot . <br /> The accidents that had been at that corner were <br /> due to sp�ed on the curve and other factors not <br /> related to persons leaving or entering the <br /> parkinq lot . <br /> Discussion again incluclec� the DNR acquiring <br /> property at that corner and huilding a larger <br /> parking lot , puttin� in a fishing pier and <br /> possibly a boat 7_aunching area . <br />
