Motion, Ayes (5) -
Nays (0 ) .
Bruce Malkerson, City Attorney, reviewed with the NAVARRE PARKING LOT
City Council the following letter concerriing the
registration of Langdon Park Townsite , Navarre
parking lot, dated February 25 , 1981 which states :
"Enclosed please find a memorandum to me from Jim
Steilen of our office dated February 16 , 1981,
concerning his conference with Richard Edblom, the
Examiner of Titles regarding the registration of the
Townsite of Langdon Park which includes the municipal
parking lot. I have reviewed this information with
you generally at the City Council meeting of February 23 ,
1981 . This will confirm my understanding that the City
Council wishes us to proceed with further investigation
and to take what action is necessary in order to ensure
tha1 the City ' s interests are protected. This matter
will be handled primarily by Jim Steilen of our office
since he is more of an expert than I in the area. of
land title registrations, legal descriptions, etc .
Of course , I will be involved in the overall direction
of the review and any negotiations.
Once we finish the preliminary investigation, we will
contact the present property owner to see whether or
not that property owner would be willing to relinquish
control of the parking lot to the City instead of
having the property tied up in title objections and
possible litigation for an extended period of time . "
End of letter
Paurus moved , Butler seconded, that the City of Orono
will not vacate its interest in the alley at the Navarre
parking lot since it has been documented it has been
maintained for public uses and is a deeded property to
the City of Orono.
