REGULAR MEETING OF THE ORONO COUNCIL, JULY 28 , 1980 Page 33 Hurr moved, Butler seconded, to approve the attached 201 STUDY LETTER letter to the Lake Minnetonka Conservation District and the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District from Mayor Van Nest dated July 30 , 1980 , concerning the 201 study. Motion, Ayes (5) - Nays (0) . Letter - Pages 34 & 35 _ The following letter was received from Gale Lennon, CABLE TV LETTER Superintendent, Orono School District 278 , concerning Gale Lennon Cable TV dated July 24 , 1980 , which states: "Thank you for your July 7, 1980 letter regarding the , potential use of cable television. I have referred your materials to our head academic level principals and will be discussing it with them in the near furture. At this point in time, the responses I get tend to indicate that we would find minimum use for cable television in the education program because of the lack of flexibility in the transmission process. We currently secure television for our classrooms by hiring people to tape the programs when they are presented and then file the tape as we do other library materials. "If cable television is to become truly beneficial to schools, I urge that there be substantial school administrator representation on the committee responsible for development of programs and programming to provide information to the committee regarding school cost constraints, program content, duplication of other available similar services, usefulness and applicability of proposed programs and services. Although I am not able to give you a definite answer at this time, it does appear that direct cable TV would not be terribly beneficial to us unless we are able � to directly and strongly influence its development. " End of letter The following letter was received from Senator George S. Pillsbury concerning Cable TV dated July 21, 1980 , which states: "Thanks for your letter abo�t Cable TV for Long Lake, Minnetonka Beach and Orono. I wish I had some suggestions that would be helpful to your efforts. "My only suggestion would be to work with a firm that has a good record serving areas similar to ours and who has been responsive to the needs of the community. "Again, thanks for the letter and good to see you both last Thursday. You and other leaders of Orono deserve a great deal of credit for adding this much needed thoroughfare . "
