Brandt <br /> Transportation Coordinator <br /> Transportation Advisory Board <br /> 300 Metro Square Buildinq <br /> St. Paul, Minnesota 55101 <br /> Dear Mr. Brandt: <br /> The City of Orono is in recepit of your letter dated March 7 , <br /> 1980 outlining the proposed submittal of the 1981-83 Federal <br /> Aid Urban Programs . Enclosed with your letter are maps <br /> which are intended to show adopted roadway classifications <br /> that defines the FAU system. <br /> Included in this functional classification of roadways , which <br /> is intended to anticipate that functional use five to ten years <br /> in the future, is Willow Drive, which is shown as a minor arterial. <br /> Willow Drive is a City roadway which runs in north/south direction <br /> and serves our residents residing in the heart of Orono ' s <br /> sensitive rural area, that is bounded bv game preserves habited <br /> by abundant wildlife and precious wetlands that preserve the <br /> quality of Lake Minnetonka. <br /> The City of Orono recoqnizing the need to preserve this natural , <br /> rural and environmentally sensitive area contiguous to Lake <br /> Minnetonka, constructed a ring route to connect Hennepin County <br /> �19 at Hennepin County #84 , to Hennepin County #6 and State <br /> Highway #12 allowing traffic to commute to the Twin Citv area <br /> reducing potential traffic congestion in the lake area. <br /> Willow Drive, at the intersection of Fox Street south to Hennepin <br /> County #146 , by resolution and Metropolitan Department of <br /> Transportation approval, was removed from Orono' s MSA system. <br />
