BEGULAR MEETING OF THE ORONO COUNCIL, FEBRUARY 25 , 1980 Page 17 <br /> The agenda item concerning emergency preparedness EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS <br /> was tabled until the March 10, 1980 Council <br /> meeting. <br /> Dick Benson, City Administrator, presented the BUFFALO BITUMINOUS <br /> City Council with the attached letter from Estimate #5 <br /> Walter S. Johnson, Attorney for Buffalo <br /> Bituminous, dated February 15, 1980. <br /> Letter Page 18 <br /> Council Meeting - February 25, 1980 <br /> Dick Benson, City Administrator, commented that <br /> staff have not had a response from the bonding <br /> company. <br /> Dick Benson, City Administrator, entered into CRYSTAL BAY POST OFFICE <br /> the record the following concerning the Crystal <br /> Bay Post Office, dated February 22 , 1980 , which <br /> states: <br /> Mayor Van Nest and I met with representatives <br /> of the Minneapolis Postal Department to discuss <br /> the future of the Crystal Bay Post Office. <br /> It was agreed that they would review the entire <br /> Orono area and the different post offices serving <br /> it contemplating closing the Crystal Bay office <br /> and routing all mail out of Long Lake. Orono <br /> would keep its identity and use Long Lake' s zip <br /> code for rural delivery. <br /> The same might apply to Minnetonka Beach if they <br /> are receptive to this arrangement. <br /> I held a meeting with the present postmaster <br /> Mabel Belt of the Crystal Bay Post Office <br /> and she does wish to retire this year (July) , <br /> but would remain until December to finalize any <br /> work that has to be done. <br /> It appears that we are all in agreement. The <br /> postal department will make necessary changes to <br /> accommodate closing the post office, the Crystal <br /> Bay Postmaster wishes to retire, and Orono does <br /> not wish to continue the present leasing arrangement. <br /> (Continued, Page 19) <br />
