Christine Mattson
From: Christine Mattson
Sent: Wednesday, September 23, 2015 7:55 AM
To: 'bob schroeder'
Cc: 'jrkingeng@comcast.net'; 'Curt Swanson'; 'Mike K'; 'anthonykuznik@hotmail.com'; Melanie
Curtis
Subject: 1065 Linden Lane/#2013-01293
Attachments: two tier boulder wall 1065 linden lane orono.pdf; christine, orono planning dept..pdf
Bob,
I believe there is some miscommunication on the engineered design requirement. The attached information you
submitted does not meet the City's requirements.
The City's requirement is that all walls over 4 ft in height are designed and signed off on by a registered professional
engineer. Walls less than 4 ft and are not separated by at least twice the height of the lower wall are considered one
wall. The design should be submitted for review prior to the construction of the wall. In this case that was not
done. We need either a signed design that was used or if one was not done then a report signed by a licensed engineer
showing the wall designed properly.
The design and or report should contain sufficient detail for someone in the future looking at the property file to
understand what was built. A typical retaining wall design contains information about the soil the wall is retaining, the
type of fill used, the wall material, the foundation of the wall, any drainage mechanisms in the wall, and the type and
location of any geogrid reinforcement. Normally we also receive a cross section drawing of a typical section in the walt.
The above information is one of the items needed to close out the building permit application. Please don't hesitate to
contact us if you have any questions.
Christine Mattson
Planning Assistant
City of Orono
2750 Kelley Parkway Orono MN 55356(physical addressJ
PO Box 66 Crystal Bay MN 55323-0066 (mailing address)
' 952.249.4620 8 952.249.4616
 cmattson@ci.orono.mn.us www.ci.orono.mn.us
Office Hours: Monday- Friday 8 am to 4:30 pm
OUR OFFICE WILL BE CLOSED: Wednesday, November 11,2015
From: bob schroeder [mailto:boulderbob23@gmail.com]
Sent:Tuesday, September 22, 2015 3:26 PM
To:Christine Mattson<CMattson@ci.orono.mn.us>
Subject: picture of boulder wall at 1065 linden lane
here is your requested drawing for your file...BOULDER BOB
i
