RE�ULAR P4EETING OF THE ORONO COUr1CIL, JANLJARY 15, 1980 Page 20 <br /> The following letter was received from the TR.AFFIC SI�NAL <br /> P4innesota Department of Transportation District (Continued) <br /> Engineer Bill Crawford, dated December 21, 1979 , <br /> which states: <br /> "A traffic signal and channelization nroject is <br /> currently scheduled for an August 27, 1987_ , <br /> contract letting date. However, bv scaling the <br /> project down (reduced width, number of lanes , <br /> and future capacity) , we hope to eliminate sorle <br /> federal and state environmental requirements and <br /> reduce the cost. <br /> ��e should know in the next month if_ the Federal <br /> Highway Administration will apProve the reduced <br /> design. If they do, the project could be moved <br /> up to the fall of 1981 assuming one and a half_ <br /> years for right-of-way acquisition. If the City <br /> of Orono could obtain the right-of-wav in less <br /> tirae, the project could be moved up even further, <br /> possibly as early as 1980. However, f_unding and <br /> manpower could still be a problem. <br /> There does not appear to be an intermediate <br /> traffic control that would be safe or effective <br /> for this intersection. PZay I suggest,Bob, that <br /> you provide us an opportunity to work with ��ou, <br /> the City of Orono and the school board. If we <br /> were to r.ieet, I am sure we could explain the <br /> circumstances and there is a chance we could <br /> speed up the letting of this project. " <br /> End of letter <br /> Council P�eeting - Januar_y 15 , 1980 <br /> The City Council requested the City Engineer <br /> to determine ric�ht-of-way costs and to explore <br /> methods of reimhursement to the City. <br /> Glenn Cook, City Engineer, presented the following CHANGE ORDER - RING ROUTE <br /> letter to the City Council addressed to Buffalo Buff_alo Bituminous <br /> Bituminous, dated December ?.6 , 1979 , �ahich states: <br /> "The City of Orono would like a cost estimate on <br /> the change order for constructing the retaining <br /> wall along County Road 6 by February l, 1980. <br /> In the event you are not able or �io not desire to <br /> complete this work, we would have ample tirme to <br /> solicit bids. <br /> If you have any questions , please contact this <br /> office.
