Robb, Jr. Hennepin County Board of Commissioners Hennepin County Government Center , Minneapolis, t•linnesota 55387 . � Dear Bud: I wish to thank you for assisting Minnetonka Beach and Orono in arranging the public information meeting August 13 , 1979 , regarding the proposed Arcola bridge closing to accor.irmodate necessary repairs. I am sure by now you have heard r.►any ar�uments why the Arcola bridge should remain open during construction and why the bridge should be closed. In reviewing the entire matter, it appears that our options are few and the determination has to be made, are we to accommodate the public in providing for the safety, health, and public welfare of all the area residents, or will the decision be made because of technical reasons to accor.ir.iodate the construction and close the Arcola bridge. It is Orono' s position that the latter option is not in the public interest and lacks the cooperative spirit that is prevelant through- out the lake area. _ Throughout the years , all of the lake communities have worked together in establishing cooperative programs in providing for public safety. The ntunber of fire and police personnel available to one city government because of budget lir,litations are too limited in number to operate on any other basis than that of total cooperation in providing a high level of service to all of our residents. We also have to consider legal irRplications of enforcement. A detour would create a delay in allowing er.iergency vehicles to respond to any er.iergency in P4innetonka Beach. A detour would prevent mutual aid departr.►ents , Wayzata and Long Lake, to assist the Mound Fire Department, which contracts fire service to Diinnetonka Beach.
