The Commission recomrnends that Dr. Dunlap <br /> consider the suction dredging method. <br /> Before final Council action, the Planninc� Corlmission <br /> requested a copy of the original DNR permit for <br /> Council and staff review. <br /> The Corunission expressed concern over blanket <br /> approval being given to maintenance dredging <br /> projects. Dunlap , <br /> read a letter concerning his request to the City <br /> Council. <br /> Letter - Pages 11 &12 <br /> r2r. Dunlap also presented the City Council with a <br /> letter from Dr. John PQ. Wood, Director of the Gray <br /> Freshwater Biological Research Foundation. <br /> Letter - Page 13 <br /> P��ayor Van Nest sLated tliat he has always . <br /> believed that dredging does do dar.tage to the lake. <br /> He stated that the Council consistently raaintains . <br /> that dredging is ecologically and environmentally <br /> unsound for Lake Psinnetonka. The reasons why some <br /> dredging had been approved was to maintain riparian � <br /> rights to the lake for homeowners. He also explained <br /> the process of nutrients polluting the lake due to � <br /> dredging. <br /> Discussion included former applications �or dredging <br /> that had been approved several years ago, riparian <br /> rights, r►aintenance dredging, and hardships involved. <br /> (Continued, Page 14) <br />
