REGULAR t2EETING OF THE OROP10 COUNCIL, JUNE 29, 1978 Page 23 <br /> Presently, the recreational facilities are being DAY`�'OP1 PARK PROPERTY <br /> minimally maintained and with the increased (Continued) <br /> velopment of our present parks and beaches, this <br /> .._11 mean more costs for maintenance. <br /> Letter from Dottie Rietow, Bruce P�alkerson' s - <br /> secretary, dated November 30, 1976 states: <br /> "Bruce ?4alkerson requested that I look into the <br /> necessary steps for the City of Orono to accept <br /> the Dayton Park Property. <br /> According to the handbook for the statutory cities <br /> put out by the League of P4unicipalities, cities <br /> may accept gifts of real or personal property <br /> including money and use them for the benefit of <br /> their citizens in accordance with the terms <br /> prescribed by the donor. Gifts may not, however, <br /> be accepted or used for religious or sectarian <br /> purposes. A resolution accepting the gift and <br /> stating in full the terms of the donor must be <br /> adopted by an affirmative vote of two-thirds <br /> of the members of the Council. " <br /> Council PZeeting - June 29 , 1978 <br /> Mr. Oberhauser was present to discuss Mr. Dayton' s <br /> �oposed gift to the City. <br /> Mayor Van Nest comr,�ented on his concerns with <br /> accepting land and adding to the already enormous <br /> amount of land off the tax rolls for park purposes. <br /> Councilmember Pesek comr.iented that services are <br /> not available for this area; particularly to <br /> supervised swims.ling. <br /> Pe�e�: noved, Massengale seconded, to request the <br /> City Attorney to draft a resolution to accept <br /> the Dayton Park property to be presented at the <br /> next meeting and to address itself to: <br /> 1. Taxes <br /> 2. Warrenty deed and title opinion <br /> Motion, Ayes (4�) - Nays (1 ) • P�Iayor Van rdest Piay. <br />
