Benson:

•7e have two concerns as we continue to review te water and sewer
 sit.uation.
First, Long Lake records show the following water volume charges to
 Orono during the past year:
 r'arch 31 , 1977 1, 864 , 900
 June 30 , 1976 2 , 635 , 800
Sept. 30, 1976 3, 747, 800
 Dec. 31, 1976 2 , 086 , 200
i Total gallons 10 , 334 , 700
At 27, this produced approximately $2800 in annual revenue to Orono
or over five times your out-of-pocket costs ($500-$600) as reported at the
meeting on May 23. We feel a flat rate to the school ($100-$150 per quarter
• would be very helpful to us and would not escalate as our water consumption
increases . At the present 27 rate , those of us on the Long Lake waer
system appear o be subsidizing Orono' s water service operation_
Our second concern is that we see the potential savings of 45G on
Long Lake water charges practically wiped out by a planned increase of 33C
in Orono sewer charges. Those of us along Highway 12 who are served by
, the Long Lake sewer system and who have paid the excess rate for many years
deserve a rate comparable to Long Lake ' s normal ch arges , plus maintenance
of the lines. To be fair, we do not feel your overall sewer operation ccsts
for the new plant should determine our rates when we are not served directly
by these new faciities in Orono.
The ?✓etropolitan Waste Control Com-nission has sugoested to us the
• possibiliy of a joint powers aaree;n-nt for those of us served by Long Lake ,

DR.
