i
• CITY OF' ORONO
Special PIeeting of the Orono Council, 4:00 P.7•i.
 December 30, 1975
The Orono Council met on the above date
with the following members presenta A2ayor
• Searles, Councilmembers Butler, ilassengale,
Paurus, anct [Jelsh. The fact that such an
, per.-space use has remained in existence all these
ears lias been a great plus for the residents of
western Plymouth, eastern Orono and northcaest t?ayzatao
The municipal Problems raised by the present
proposal are two-fold from Orono's viewpoint.
One is the question of land-use comatibility,
[Iet of Ilorth Ferndale Road the land is zoned for
rural residential use, with a minimum lot size
of two acrese (The Chevy Chase area is zoned
♦ at one acre, uith much of the existing use 'ased
on actual 1/2 to 3/4 acre lot izes) . Te suggest
i:hat the suYdivision of the Elwell proerty
, micht fit better into the area land use pattern
if the lot sizes varied from 1/2 to 1 acre, with
i the larger lots located in the north and northeast
portion of the pronerty beinc developed. This
would tend to blend the proposec land use into
the more rural use to the north, in Plyr.louth,
• and to the west in Oronoo
T^e rould appreciate hearing yaur vies anc? your
Council's vievs on this "compatibility" question.
l'ilP seconr matter relates to transportation.
orth Ferndale Road srves both our cormlunities
nd. T7ayzata in the southern part. The existing
nuner of residences on North Ferndale in Orono
# is a srnall percentage of the num}er roposecl on
. the Elwell property. The Comprehensive PZan and
Zoning of Orono indicates a continued lot
level of usage in the future. PTo Capital
(Continued)
