SPECIAL MEETING OF THE ORONO COUNCIL NOVEPZBER 17, 1975 Page 3 <br /> � � WHEREAS, the upgrading of County Road 15 and its RESOLUTION #557 <br /> present right-of-way is an unacceptable solution (Continued) <br /> to this problem, and <br /> WHEREAS, the construction of a ring route around <br /> � the northwestern area of Lake Minnetonka is an <br /> integral part of Orono's comprehen�ive plan, and <br /> � WHEREAS, such ring route would relieve the traffic <br /> � on County Highway 15 by moving it northwest and <br /> away from the lake, and <br /> � <br /> WHEREAS, studies jointly by Hennepin County and <br /> a the City of Orono have shown that such a ring <br /> � route could reduce the amount of thru traffic <br /> through the City of Orono, Minnetonka Beach, and <br /> � other lake front communities, and would generally <br /> enhance the traffic moving in the entire north- <br /> � western Lake Minnetonka area. <br /> � NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of <br /> the City of Orono does hereby commit its portion <br /> '� of Municipal State Aid Funds for 1972 , 73,and 74 <br /> � as far as are necessary for the purchase of right- <br /> of-way for the proposed ring route so that the <br /> � Hennepin County Highway Department can proceed <br /> with the development of this urgently needed <br /> facility. It is intended that these funds would <br /> be used exclusively for this purpose. <br /> Adopted by the City Council of the City of Orono, <br /> r Minnesota at a regular meeting held September 24, <br /> � 1974. <br /> � Norman Paurus read a letter from our City Engineer ENGINEER'S LETTER <br /> which stated that: <br /> � <br /> "I 've talked with Craig Spencer at Hennepin County <br /> � regarding the status of the ring route and Orono's <br /> share of the cost of future construction. Hennepin <br /> � County will be coming out with a memo in about a <br /> • week to interested cities on the result of a survey <br /> of wr�ich ring route is preferred. The majority of <br /> � the cities surveyed preferred Alternate No. 4 which <br /> involves straightening County Highways 110, 19 , and <br /> 7 6. The County' s tentative schedule is to do the <br /> work on Co. Rd. 110 within the next 5 years and to <br /> • purchase the right-of-way for Co. Rd. 19 and 6 in <br /> 1979 or 1980. The proposed route would be a county- <br /> � State Aid Highway. <br /> � Past policy in Hennepin County has been for the City <br /> � and County to each pay 50% of the cost of right-of- <br /> �way acquisition. <br /> � <br /> • <br /> � <br />
