This work session meeting <br /> • had been announced at the December 2 , 1974 , <br /> special meeting of the City Council. <br /> � Searles reviewed the extensive 3 year study COMPREHEN5IVE GUIDE PLAN <br /> � : relating to the comprehensive guide plan <br /> and amendments to the zoning code. He <br /> � discussed the need for the changing of <br /> certain use district boundaries , uses <br /> ` permitted in certain use districts , and the <br /> sizes of lots that should be permitted in <br /> certain sections of the city. <br /> Searles noted that the comprehensive guide PRESERVATION OF QUALITY <br /> � pian and supporting studies have indicated OF WATER <br /> that certain areas of the city must be <br /> • rezoned in order to protect the health , wel- <br /> fare and safety of the citizens of Orono. <br /> • He noted that within the City of Orono was <br /> . Lake Minnetonka and the extensive water shed <br /> and wet lands servicing and draining into <br /> S Lake Minnetonka. The preservation of these <br /> natural features mandated additional changes <br /> � in the present zoning co�e in order to <br /> protect Lake Minnetonka and Long Lake from <br /> r continued pollution and in order to insure <br /> the continuance of Lake r�iinnetonka and the <br /> • quality of ground water in the area. He <br /> � nated that the only way to preserve the <br /> quality of water in Lake Minnetonka and <br /> � throughout the entire city is to precluc�e <br /> intense urban development in most of the <br /> � city. He noted that the Metropolitan <br /> Council had supported the findings of the <br /> � comprehensive guide plan and the proposed <br /> changes to the zoning code and use district <br /> ` boundaries stateci therein. <br /> � <br /> � <br /> • <br /> y <br />
