REQUEST FOR COUNCIL' ACTION
Date: 22 March 2011
Item No.
Department Approval: Administrator Approval: Agenda Section:
Name: Melanie Curtis
Title: Planning&Zoning oordinator
Item Description: James MacKinnon-Request ta Change Street Name for Kintyre II Daveiopment
Exhibits:
ExhibitA. Street Name Change Request
Exhibit B. Receipt
ExhibitC. Fee Schedule
Exhibit D. Final Plat Resolution for Kintyre II
SUMMARY
The Kintyre Il development received Final Pfat approval in the fall of 2010. At that time the developer's
submitted documentation for the development included a street name af MacKinnon Drive. However, this
was apparentiy left aver from the previous develaper and not the intent of the current developer,Jeff
Mart9neau,or the properry owner,James MacKinnon.
The City does not have a street naming policy. Nistorically the Council has allowed developers to narne the
private streets within their development at their discretion. Upan the issuance of the first building permit Mr.
MacKinnon saw the temporary address signage displayed at the property. lt was at this time when he became
aware ofthe road name. He subsequently requested to have the name changed from MacKinnon Drive to
Kintyre Lane. Mr. MacKinnon has submitted a street name change request which includes signatures from
himself, Mr. Martineau and Michael Roll, currently the only property owner on the street.
PLANNING STAFF RECOMMENpATl01
Changing of the street name for a new development is a relatively simple undertaking. It will not affect the
address number assignment; only the name of the street wil) be changed. The developer paid the address
change per-lot fee as established in the 2011 Fee Schedule. As there appear to be no negative ramifications
from the potential change, planning staff recommends changing the street named MacKinnon Drive to Kintyre
Lane as requested. Staff wil)take appropriate steps to assure that all of the necessary entities are notified.
COUNC{L ACTION REQUESTED
7he Council should consider the deveEoper's request and make a motion to change MacKinnon Drive to
Kintyre Lane.
