The
rock bed is hydraulically overloaded and the system is surface discharging which is
classified as an imminent health hazard which must be repaired or disconnected within
10 months.
Soil borings #1 & 2 found mottled soil at 1.5' & 2.3' below the ground surface. Soil
borings #3 &4 were completed through the system which found original soil at 3.0' &
3.1' elev. 102.2 & 102.0. The bottom of the rock bed was found at elev. 103.0 which
indicates there is 1.2' & 1.0' of sand below the rock bed, 1.5' of sand is required to meet
the required 3' separation from the bottom of the rock bed and the mottled soil. The
sand was not hydraulically overloaded. The proposal is to remove the rock bed &
approximately 6" of sand below the rock bed. The sand witl be replaced to elev. 103.7
(1.5' of sand) and replace with a 10' x 62' rock bed & distribution pipe.
This on-site sewage treatment system is designed for a Type 1, five bedroom home, in
accordance with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency Chapter 7080 and local
ordinances.
h.R
yR.
The system will need to be pumped fQr several weeks prior to repair. A large backhoe
must be used to remove the soil to prevent travel over the mound.
The existing tanks may be used if water tight and upon approval from the local
Inspector.
1
