MINUTES OF THE <br />ORONO CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br />Monday, August 22, 2016 <br />7:00 o'clock p.m. <br />8. #16-3832, CITY OF ORONO, LURTON PARK VARIANCES ORDINANCE NO. 176 <br />THIRD SERIES AND RESOLUTION 6663 (continued) <br />Walsh moved, Printup seconded, to accept the quote from TL Stevens in the amount of $11,141.00, <br />to accept the quote from Northern Specialties, Inc., in the amount of $79,754.00 for construction of <br />the fencing and gates, and to authorize staff to procure and install the items included in the design <br />and cost estimate, with the nonresident fee being increased to $40 and with a park closing time of <br />9 p.m. VOTE: Ayes 4, Nays 0. <br />PUBLIC WORKS/CITY ENGINEER REPORT, CONTINUED <br />Edwards reported on the following work performed by the Public Works Department: <br />• Right-of-way mowing has been completed <br />• Flooding was experienced on East Long Lake Road and Kelly Avenue <br />• Watertown Road Phase 2 is currently underway <br />• Crack sealing was performed <br />• Potholes were filled on Spring Hill, Fox, and Lyric Street <br />• Mill and overlay is currently underway on Hunter and Tamarack <br />• 2016 sewer cleaning is underway <br />• Well construction is underway <br />• GIS mapping of Highwood is being completed <br />• Aquatic weed removal has been performed <br />• Polling sites were set up for the primaries earlier this month <br />Edwards reported the residents experienced some water over the roadway on Kelly Avenue. Edwards <br />noted certain portions of the roadway are only a few inches above the high water lake level, which is the <br />reason for the flooding. Edwards stated they did see an improvement from past years given the prior <br />work that has been done in the area to increase the pipe size and that anticipated future work should help <br />that area even more. <br />Edwards stated he is in the process of hiring a Public Works maintenance worker and that the City has <br />received 14 applications. Edwards indicated he hopes to have someone on board in the next couple of <br />weeks. <br />PUBLIC SAFETY REPORT <br />*9.
