Water supply connections to fixtures or equipment which have submerged inlets,or inlets below the spill <br /> line of the fixture or equipment,must be provided with an air gap arrangement,approved backflow <br /> preventer or bacl�low preventer assembly as specified in Minnesota Rules,part 4715.2000 and <br /> part 4715.2010. The installation of reduced pressure zone backflow preventers is permitted only when <br /> periodic testing is done by a trained backflow preventer tester acceptable to the administrative authority. <br /> Testing intervals shall not exceed one year,and records must be kept. All devices must be tested after initial <br /> installation to assure that debris from the piping installation has not interfered with the functioning of the <br /> device. The devices shall be overhauled at least once every five years. The installation of new backflow <br /> preventers must be at least 12 inches,but not more than 6 feet above the finished floor or ground level. <br /> 4. It is recommended that a cleanout be provided where new waste and vent piping connects with existing <br /> plumbing to facilitate required testing of the new installation. <br /> 5. The copper water distribution piping must meet ASTM Standard B 88. All solder and flux used for the <br /> potable water distribution systems shall contain less than 0.2 percent lead. Use of 50-50 solder or flux <br /> containing more than 0.2 percent lead is prohibited in potable water distribution systems. Any solder other <br /> than 95-5 tin-antimony or 96-4 tin-silver must be specifically approved by the administrative authority prior <br /> to use(see Minnesota Statutes, Section 326.371). <br /> 6. If plastic pipe is used for the drain,waste and vent system: <br /> a. PVC plastic pipe shall comply with ASTM Standard D 2665,D 2949 or F 891. <br /> b. It must be installed in accordance with Minnesota Rules,part 4715.0580(�and part 4715.0600. <br /> Above-grade horizontal runs of plastic waste and vent pipe cannot exceed 35 feet in total length. <br /> Above-grade vertical stacks constructed of plastic pipe may exceed 35 feet in total height only if an <br /> approved expansion joint is used. <br /> c. Solvent weld joints in PVC and CPVC pipe must include use of a primer which is of contrasting color to <br /> the gipe and cement(see Minnesota Rules,part 4715.0810, subpart 2). <br /> 7. Verify that the e�sting water supply and waste systems are sized to accommodate the added fixtures (see <br /> Minnesota Rules,part 4715.3800 and part 4715.2310). <br /> 8. The plumbing system shall be tested in accordance with Minnesota Rules,part 4715.2820. <br /> 9. The water piping system shall be disinfected in accordance with Minnesota Rules,part 4715.2250. <br /> NOTE(S): <br /> 1. The scope of this project consists of the finishing of an existing building. The plumbing installation <br /> includes dental lavatories,counter sinks, and a restroom. <br /> 2. This facility is served by existing municipal water and sewer service connections. <br /> Authorization for construction in accordance with the approved plans may be withdrawn if construction is not <br /> undertaken within a period of two years. The fact that the plans have been approved does not necessarily mean <br /> that recommendations or requirements for change will not be made at some later time when changed conditions, <br /> additional information, or advanced knowledge make improvements necessary. <br />
