Melanie Curtis
From: Pete Bazil [pbazil@earthlink.net]
Sent: Saturday, June 11, 2011 5:14 PM
To: Melanie Curtis
Subject: Letter/Permit
Melanie:
Today we received the permit from the city authorizing the modifications to the lakeside deck and stairway that were
required by the City as well as your cover letter. We thank you for that,as we have sought to be cooperative with the
City, dutifully undertaking to comply with the required modifications, and hiring licensed and reputable contractors with
orders to work with the city as required to assure work is done in a copasetic manner.
I am not clear on the basis for your allegation that we"continue to make unpermitted improvements to the property"
and this is the first I've heard that the May 25`h deck work was conducted without a permit(I was told the opposite).
We are happy to remove the material around the fire ring which was placed there informally by us using stone laying
around the house(hardly a patio).
As for the plastic around the pool equipment, I believe this has been there for as long as we've had the house and
certainly since the landscaping work that was done in 2007 for which we had to originally make amends to the City. Not
sure why this is an issue all of a sudden now. To the extent the City is insistent that this work be done and its due to the
75'setback rules, I note that the area appears to be partially within the 75' area. I assume that we would only be
required to remove the plastic that is within 75'. Please confirm.
I believe we have demonstrated our intent to be cooperative throughout this process. It is my hope that the city would
seek to maintain a similar cooperative tone. I would like to think the City of Orono seeks to be a partner with its
cooperative residents and not at odds with them.
Sincerely,
Pete Bazil
1
