 !
-P TES T/NG INC. Steven B. Schirmers • MPCA Cert.No. 627

. 951 Katydid Lane NE • St. Michael, MN 55376 • (612) 497-3566
FAX (612)-497-5011
State License#394
February 13, 1998
Mary Stevenson
205 Hollander Rd.
Orono, Henn. Co., MN
A Compliance Inspection was completed for the existing on-site sewage treatment
system located on this property. The system consists of 2-1000 gallon holding tanks, 1-
1000 gallon pump chamber and 4-100' long trenches = 1200sq.ft. The system was built
in 1987. Soil borings into the system found the top of the rock at 6" to 14" below the
ground surface with the bottom of the rock at 24" to 32" below the ground surface. Four
soil borings, #4,5,6 & 7 completed in the area of the existing system found mottled soil
(highest known saturated layer of soil) at 30", 36" 844" below the ground surface. State
and local code requires a 2" separation (not in shoreland district) from the bottom of the
system and the saturated soil to be in compliance. The existing system is classified as
failed, non-compliance due to not meeting the required separation from the saturated
soil. The City of Orono will require the system to be upgraded in 10 years, unless an
imminent health hazard occurs which is surFace discharging, badcing into the home or
the 1 st tank not being water tight. The tanks must be verified water tight by a licensed
pumper or the City Inspector.
This on-site sewage treatment system is designed for a Type 1, four bedroom home, in
accordance with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency Chapter 7080 and local
ordinances.
The soils on this site are SCS soils mapped - HbC - Hayden loam. The seasonally
saturated soils were located at 24" to 34" (mottled soil). Due to the seasonally saturated
soils, a Pressurized Mound System will need to be installed to treat septic effluent. The
bottom of the treatment area must be located at least 3' above the saturated soils.
Approval will be needed for the upslope toe of the mound to be 10' from the north
property line due to the limited space available. The absorption area will be 20' from the
property line. Also the slope is 7%, the city requires a maximum of 6%.
1
