MINUTES OF THE <br />ORONO CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br />Tuesday, May 29, 2007 <br />7:00 o’clock p.m. <br />_____________________________________________________________________________________ <br /> <br />*7. #07-3277 SUSAN NELSON, 500 OXFORD ROAD – VARIANCE – RESOLUTION NOS. <br />5655 and 5623 <br /> <br />Murphy moved, Rahn seconded, to adopt RESOLUTION NO. 5622, a Resolution Granting a <br />Variance for the property located at 500 Oxford Road. VOTE: Ayes 5, Nays 0. <br /> <br />Murphy moved, Rahn seconded, to adopt RESOLUTION NO. 5623, a Resolution Denying a <br />Variance for the property located at 500 Oxford Road. VOTE: Ayes 5, Nays 0. <br /> <br /> <br />*8. #07-3283 STEVEN SIGEL, 1399 PARK DRIVE – VARIANCE – RESOLUTION NO. 5624 <br /> <br />Murphy moved, Rahn seconded, to adopt RESOLUTION NO. 5624, a Resolution Granting <br />Variances to Municipal Zoning Code Sections 78-1279, 78-1288, and a Conditional Use Permit. <br />VOTE: Ayes 5, Nays 0. <br /> <br /> <br />MAYOR/COUNCIL REPORT <br /> <br />Bremer noted that an article on Orono’s Hope Chest is on the front page of the latest Minneapolis/St. Paul <br />Business Journal. The article states the owner of the Hope Chest is providing a grant to North Memorial <br />Medical Center. <br /> <br />Bremer suggested a resolution be drafted recognizing the generosity and support of Alan Carlson of <br />Orono. Bremer noted Carlson donated the land that was recently sold to MnDOT. <br /> <br />McMillan reported that she has spoken with Jim Grube regarding the Dakota Rail and County Road 15. <br />In addition, a discussion was held regarding the Orono Orchard Road/County Road 15 intersection and <br />that his engineering department would revisit the layout of the intersection if an e-mail from the City <br />Administrator is sent identifying the City’s issues with the intersection. <br /> <br />McMillan reported they have gotten 17 properties signed up so far for the organics recycling program. <br /> <br />Bremer inquired how many customers Randy’s Sanitation has in Orono. <br /> <br />McMillan stated Randy’s has approximately 1000 customers and that Allied is the largest sanitation <br />provider in the City with approximately 2000 customers. McMillan stated they are planning to do a press <br />release towards the middle of June as well as a photo shoot of a resident who participates in the program. <br />McMillan stated the residents who are currently signed up have indicated they are happy with the <br />program. <br /> <br />McMillan stated it is her understanding that the Orono schools would be applying for a grant to allow <br />them to participate in the organics program. <br /> <br />Murphy reported the Minnehaha steamboat ran all three days this Memorial Day weekend and that things <br />are proceeding well. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />PAGE 3 <br />Item #02 - CC Agenda - 06/11/07 <br />Approval of Council Minutes 05/29/07 [Page 3 of 7]
