MINUTES OF THE <br />ORONO CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br />Monday, July 9, 2012 <br />7:00 o'clock p.m. <br /> <br /> <br /> Page 1 of 9 <br /> <br />ROLL CALL <br /> <br />The Orono City Council met on the above-mentioned date with the following members present: Acting <br />Mayor Aaron Printup, and Council Members Cynthia Bremer, Doug Franchot, and David Rahn. <br />Representing Staff were City Administrator Jessica Loftus, City Clerk Lin Vee, Finance Director Ron <br />Olson, Assistant City Administrator of Long-Term Strategic Planning Michael Gaffron, Planning Director <br />Melanie Curtis, City Engineer/Public Works Director Jesse Struve, City Attorney Soren Mattick, and <br />Recorder Jackie Young. <br /> <br />Acting Mayor Printup called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m., followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. <br /> <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF AGENDA <br /> <br />Item Nos. 6 -11 and Item No. 13 were added to the Consent Agenda. <br /> <br />Rahn moved, Franchot seconded, to approve the Consent Agenda as amended. VOTE: Ayes 4, <br />Nays 0. <br /> <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> <br />*2. COUNCIL WORK SESSION OF JUNE 25, 2012 <br /> <br />Rahn moved, Franchot seconded, to approve the minutes of the Orono City Council work session of <br />June 25, 2012, as submitted. VOTE: Ayes 4, Nays 0. <br /> <br />*3. REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING OF JUNE 25, 2012 <br /> <br />Rahn moved, Franchot seconded, to approve the minutes of the Orono City Council meeting of <br />June 25, 2012, as submitted. VOTE: Ayes 4, Nays 0. <br /> <br /> <br />PRESENTATION <br /> <br />4. TOUR DE TONKA, TIM LITFIN <br /> <br />Tim Litfin provided the City Council with an update on the upcoming Tour de Tonka that is scheduled to <br />take place Saturday, August 4, 2012, and a brief overview of the 2011 bike touring event. In 2011, over <br />163 communities participated in the event, with the City of Minnetonka having the highest number of <br />bikers at 303. The event has grown substantially since 2006, with 2,448 bikers having participated in <br />2011, which is an increase of 300 percent in six years. The riders range from 5 to 82 years of age. To <br />date the Tour de Tonka has raised over $21,000 for the ICA and has collected $2,923 and 567 pounds of <br />food in 2011. <br /> <br />This year's event also includes the 4th Annual Miles of Smiles scheduled for July 30th, which allows <br />young riders aged 3 to 7 to participate in either a two or four-mile option.
