Akernative Energy Systems <br /> 24-401 Scope. <br /> This division applies to altemative energy sys[ems in all zoning districts. <br /> �, 24-402 Purpoae and intent <br /> � iar It is the goal of the city council,as expressed in the Comprehensive Plan,to provide a <br /> �"°N0r sustainable quality of life for the city's residents,making careful and effective use of available <br /> natural,human and economic resources and ensuring that resources exist to maintain and <br /> enhance the quelity of life for future residents. In accordance with that goal,the city fmds that it <br /> is in the public interest to encourage altemative energy systems that have a positive impact on <br /> enecgy production and conservation while not having an adverse impact on the community. <br /> 1O"' Therefore,the purposes of this ordinance include: <br /> (a)To promote rather than restrict development of altemative energy sources by removing <br /> regulatory barriers and creating a deaz regulatory path for approving altemative energy systems. <br /> (b)To create a livable community where development incorporates sustainable design <br /> x �,Y elements such as resoutce and energy conservation and use of renewable energy. <br /> ,.,• <br /> � �� (c)To protect and enhance sir quality,limit the effects of climate change and decrease use of <br /> �a fossil fuels. <br /> �S <br /> �4 L <br /> (d)To encourage alternative energy development in locations where the technology is viable <br /> and environmental,economic and social impacts can be mi6gated. <br /> Altemative Energy Systems Ordinance za-ao3 Defioitions. <br /> Plannlny CommJsslon RecommendoNon-Seplember 21.2009 <br /> The following words,terms and phreses,when used in this division,shall have the meanings <br /> ascribed to them in this section: <br /> Accessory means a system dasigned as a secondary use to existing buildings or facilities,wherein <br /> the power generated is used primarily for on-site consumption. <br /> Alternafrve energy system means a ground source heat pump,wind or soler energy system. <br /> \A��--"',7 Buildrng-integrated solar energy system means a solar energy system that is an integral part <br /> of a principal or accessory building,rather than a separate mechanical device,replacing or <br /> substimting for an architectural or structural component of the building including,but not limited <br /> to,photovoltaic or hot water solar systems contained within roofing materials,windows, <br /> skylights and awnings. <br /> 1 <br />
