Purpose. The purpose of this action item is to gain Council approval to solicit bids for a <br />backup generator for Lift Station #2. <br /> <br />2. Background. Lift Station #2 is a critical lift station collection sewage from the area from the <br />Crystal Bay area, Weber Hills area and Heritage Lane. It then coveys that sewage into the Met <br />Council sewer main. Under current load the lift station can backup within 20 minutes of a loss <br />of power. The City has had aspirations of providing a backup generator for the lift station for <br />some time however was unable to acquire access to land immediately adjacent to the lift station. <br />This summer the City was approach by the owners of the 1955 Shoreline Drive, offering to <br />provide space/easement for the placement of a backup generator for LS #2. In addition in July <br />2015 the City received a letter and petition from area residents requesting a backup generator for <br />LS #2. In September 2015 the Council authorized the design and engineering of the backup <br />system. Since then the system has been designed and city has been working with property <br />owners to secure easements. <br /> <br />3. Project Scope. Adding a permanent, natural gas driven, generator; installing electrical <br />distribution cabling under CSAH 15 and potentially replacing the existing control panel <br /> <br />3. Cost. The engineer’s estimated cost for this project is $175,785. <br /> <br />4. Funding. This project will be funded through the Sanitary Sewer Enterprise Fund. <br /> <br />COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED: <br /> <br />Consider a motion to approve the design and authorize solicitation for bids.
