 TNIS ITEM S EEN
- MIROF'ILMED
SIT EVAI.,U:ITION RPORT '
i'OR HARRISON R. JQHi15TON, JR.
ORONO, MINNFSOTA
10-22-80
During October J.7-22, 198 all five proposed lots in the sub-
division of Harrison Joh.ston, Jr. were tested for the suitability
of supporting on-site drainfiAld sy3terns. 3ix percolation holes
were tested on each lot rnd three soil borin taken on eacl lot
to determine botil primary and alternate drainfield sites, ihe
percolation holes were dug 6 inches in diareter to the 4 foot depth
except the altornate site on lot 1, block 2 where holos 5-6 were
dug 2 feet de to test for a sha.low trench system. The holes were
dug with both porer and hand augers.
The soil borinrs were du t•rith hand auers and were iriches
in diameter to the ! foot depth and 3 inche9 in diameter to the re-
naining depth, Some very permeable soils were found on most lots
aric? all lots ad sufficient percolation rates to qualiry for atan-
dard drainfield systems, The alternate sits on lot 1, bloak 1 will
require shallower trenches to avoid the water table. Irhe trenchea
on the primary site of lct 1 , b].oak 3 will also need to be aonat-
ructed fairly shal] ow anl an interceptor drain should be used to
divert runoff water from this site sinae the lot is bowl shaped
and collects runoff water.
Hetter soil was enaauntered shallower on the alternate s te •
of 1 hould be ua d In lot
3 of block 1 a pump will probably be needed aince the best soils
exist on top of the hill. A so mig e necessary to use pumps
on other lots depen ng th8 placement of the houses. Additiona.
design infornation for tY::e individual houses will bo needed prior
to construction. It is impe .rative that thase tested area not be
disturbed since there are some steep sidehill slopes on some lots
ancl 3ome prohibitiva soils and water tab_i. :. near t= marshes which
may r_,reclude an9 other areaa being used #'or drainfieds,
If any additional inPormation is neded, please contaat me.
 ... i
