RECONVENED 1996 BOARD OF REVIEW MEETING <br />MINUTES FOR MAY 139 1996 <br />• ( #1) ROLL <br />The Orono Board of Review met on the above date with the following members present: <br />Mayor Edward Callahan, Jr., Council Members J. Diann Goetten, Gabriel Jabbour, and <br />Charles Kelley. JoEllen Hurr was absent. The following represented City Staff: City <br />Administrator Ron Moorse, City Assessors Rolf Erickson and David Wilde, and <br />Recorder Sherry Frost. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Callahan at 6:30 p.m. <br />( #2) COUNCIL ACTION ON ASSESSOR'S RECOMMENDATIONS <br />( #3) PUBLIC COMMENTS <br />Public response was gathered prior to Council action. <br />Curt Quady, 1223 Brown Road South, PID #10- 117 -23 31 0065, property listed on page <br />2 of the Assessor's report, was present and informed of no change in his property's <br />valuation. Quady said he received the form letter on this date, May 13. He had no <br />additional comments from those previously made regarding the improvements necessary <br />to bring his property up to the value stipulated by the Assessor to satisfy that amount. <br />Callahan moved, Jabbour seconded, to accept the 1997 assessed value of $104,000. <br />Vote: Ayes 4, Nays 0. <br />• Mr. Quady said he would take the next step and bring the issue up to the Hennepin <br />County Board of Appeals. <br />Katherine Kalweit, 4265 Forest Lake Drive, PID #07- 117 -23 12 0016, property listed on <br />page 15 of the Assessor's report, was present. Letters from Mr. & Mrs. Kalweit were <br />distributed prior to the start of the meeting in regards to their current assessment. <br />Goetten asked Kalweit if she has heard from Staff regarding the concerns brought <br />forward at the last Board of Review meeting. Kalweit said she had not. Moorse <br />responded that he had not contacted the Kalweit's but has discussed the matter with the <br />City Engineer and Public Works Director. No conclusion has been made on what action <br />to take, but Moorse said he will pursue the matter. <br />Kalweit asked the Council on what they based their evaluation regarding acceptance of <br />the Assessor's valuation of their property. Jabbour informed her that no decision has <br />been made. Callahan clarified that the letter received by Kalweit from the Assessor states <br />the Assessor stands by his original valuation. Goetten noted that Kalweit did deserve a <br />response to her questions. <br />• <br />
