Orono City Council Meeting of April S, 1996 <br />• Planning Commission Applicant Interviews <br />John Thimmesh - Thimmesh said he has resided in Orono for one year. He has lived in <br />Minnesota all his life with 26 years in Crystal. He has owned property in Orono for the <br />last 12 years. <br />Thimmesh said he is semi- retired and has the time to commit to such a position. He has an <br />interest in the betterment of his community. <br />Thimmesh's background is in the manufacturing of road maintenance equipment and <br />selling repair parts for street maintenance equipment. <br />Thimmesh has attended several Planning Commission meetings and a few Council <br />meetings, along with marina meetings. He said he has only a little information on the Hwy <br />12 issue. He has not read the Comprehensive Plan. Thimmesh said he had no specific <br />concerns when asked by Goetten if he had any land use issues of concern. <br />Thimmesh said he was aware that the Planning Commission was an advisory board. He <br />said he would have interest in a Park Commission position. <br />Mary Margaret MacMillan - MacMillan moved to Orono in February, 1996. She <br />• moved from Houston, Texas, in 1994 and resided in St. Louis Park. MacMillan applied <br />for the position to familiarize herself with the area and saw it as a good way to serve her <br />community. She has no prior background in civic duties. <br />MacMillan said she would have the time to commit as she does not need to go to her <br />office on a daily basis and her children are grown. She said serving on a Commission <br />would help her get to the heart of the City. MacMillan said she is interested in land use <br />and how development decisions are made. She noted having lived in rural, planned urban <br />development, as well as in an area with no zoning. She moved to Minnesota with Pace <br />Environmental. Jabbour noted time in the community as critical in gaining a background <br />of the community. <br />MacMillan said she has no knowledge of the Comprehensive Plan and saw the position as <br />a learning experience. She would be interested in a Park Commission position. <br />Bruce Kelley - Kelley has lived in Orono for 46 years and is familiar with the Council and <br />Planning Commission. Kelley said he has had a long time interest in serving the City but <br />hadn't had the time until now. He was made aware of the time commitment involved in <br />the position_ <br />Goetten asked Kelley to comment on his experiences having been through an application <br />process with Planning Commission and Council. Kelley said he found it to be extremely <br />• frustrating and lengthy. <br />3 <br />
