You have agreed to install them according to my directions. The
retainng wall should consists of the following:
Large boulders, approximatel}2 ft in average dianeter, installed over a cut face that ranged from 2
to 12 feet in height.
• The lowest row of boulders was buried at least 1.S feet below the lower ground surface and became
the foundatioa for the upper portion of the wall. The reason for bur, vitig the first layer was to
stabilize the upper rows of boulders.
• The face of the boulders should set bad<at least I S degrees from the vertical.
The boulders were to be placed on a porous 6Iter mat laid against the prepared clean sand face.
• Horizontal drain tile to be placed behind the wall an brought to `daylight' towards the horizontal
ends of the wall.
Roof drains for the house were to be installed uuder and tltrough the lower tier of wall boulders.
• At the time of my visit grading, sodding and final Iandscaping had not been completed, but the
lower boulder were beginning to be put in place as I directed.
Keep any concentrated surface drainage &om flowing across and over the wal!.
If these specifications are foliowed the retaining watls should be safe and will keep erosion frorn
oecurring on the cut surface and also stabilize the soii that lies behind the wall. I hereby eertify that
this letter re_port been prepared by me and that I am a duly registered Professional Civil Engineer
under the taws of the State of Minnesota. If you have any further questinns or if I can be of any
further assistaice, please do not hesitate to phone or write, If necessary, I will inspect and approve the
wall when they are completed.
Sincerely,
I1'ASCA ENGINEERING, Inc.
E` ,
c '
  M,
I.awrence E.
