This project is a good idea, and is
acceptable to the City. No City permits are required for this work. I viewed the site and noticed
some small holes along the pond edge filling in these small holes with topsoil as part of this
vegetation planting project is okay.
Regarding your request to place several feet of fill in the area between the pond and driveway,
this pond would be considered a wetland under the Orono City Code, and no filling or grading is
allowed within 26' of a wetland. It is also quite possible that the area between the pond and the
driveway could be a Type 1 wetland. My understanding is also that the Minnehaha Creek
Watershed District has a buffer ordinance that prohibits grading and filling near wetlands.
Thank you for your assistance in this matter. Please contact me at 952-249-4621 should yoa have
any questions.
Sincerely;
_ G
Greg Gappa
Director of Public Services
Telephone(952)249-4600 • Fax(952)249-4616
www.ci.orono.mn.us
