MINUTES OF THE <br />ORONO CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br />Monday, April 11, 2016 <br />7:00 o’clock p.m. <br />_____________________________________________________________________________________ <br /> <br />Page 11 of 32 <br /> <br />PRESENTATION (continued) <br /> <br />Van Eyll stated additional housing is one component of it but that volunteerism is down nationwide for <br />various reasons. Van Eyll noted three public workers from the City of Long Lake have recently retired <br />and two out of the three have indicated they would be interested in becoming a member. <br /> <br />Walsh stated he always finds it amazing that false calls are so high and asked whether that common <br />across the country. <br /> <br />Van Eyll stated it is more common with homes that have security monitoring systems or alarm systems <br />but some are medicals where the police department gets there first and have the situation handled before <br />the fire department arrives. <br /> <br />Cornick asked if they are anticipating getting a dock for their boat. <br /> <br />Van Eyll stated he is hopeful. <br /> <br />McMillan commended Chief Van Eyll for getting as many volunteers as he has gotten as well as the <br />successful pancake breakfast this past Sunday. <br /> <br />PUBLIC COMMENTS <br /> <br />None <br /> <br />PUBLIC WORKS/CITY ENGINEER REPORT <br /> <br />Edwards reported on the following items relating to the Public Works Department: <br /> <br />• Road restrictions will be lifted on Friday. <br />• Pothole repairs have started. Fox Street, East Long Lake, Lyman, Watertown, Leaf and <br />Livingston are some of the priority streets. <br />• Street sweeping has started and debris is being deposited up in Medina. <br />• The CIPP of sewers on Kelly, Baldur Park, and Old Beach Road has been completed and <br />manhole sealing will be commencing in the near future <br />• The Public Works Department is working with the Metropolitan Council project for the second <br />pipe up County Road 15. All the pipes have been run to Lift Station No. 1. <br />• New sand was placed at Lydiard Beach. <br />• The golf course kitchen project is almost completed. <br />• Tim Amundson has submitted his resignation and has taken a new position with another city. <br />• The golf course is now open depending on the weather. <br /> <br />*6. APPOINTMENT OF 2016 SEASONAL EMPLOYEES – UPDATE 1 <br /> <br />Levang moved, Cornick seconded, to approve the hiring of the seasonal employees listed in Staff’s <br />April 11, 2016, memorandum. VOTE: Ayes 5, Nays 0. <br />
