Melanie Curtis
From: Melanie Curtis
Sent: Wednesday, October 31, 2012 3:48 PM
To: 'Yorks, Patricia E'
Cc: Tim Line; Lorie Line
Subject: RE: 4415 Forest Lake Landing
Attachments: Orono Comp Plan Excerpt re Lake Accesses.pdf.pdf
Patly—
Thank you for your email. My letter indicated that swimming, boating and snowmobiling were uses historically enjoyed
by residents and they were curtailed after the house was built. We have extensive minutes from numerous Park
Commission meetings in 2001 where residents commented about their past uses of the access. We can provide these if
you wish. In 2001 there were a wide variety of resident opinions expressed on how this access should be used in the
future. On October 22, 2001 the City Council on a vote of 4-0 approved aClass I"classification for this access, which
allowed pedestrian access, launching canoes and other small boats not requiring a trailer, with the understanding no
fishing or swimming will be allowed at this site. The"Class I"designation refers to a system of access classification
designed by the Park Commission but apparently never established by ordinance or formal resolution...
This City Council action to designate uses of the site could be amended, revised or rescinded by a future Council, so it
would be appropriate for potential future adjacent owners to understand that what is in place today could change in the
future. I would also refer you to the section of the Orono Comprehensive Plan (attached) that addresses preservation
and management of lake access points.
Thank you and please let me know if you have further questions.
Melanie
Melanie Curtis
Planning &Zoning Coordinator
City of Orono
2750 Kelley Parkway
Orono, MN 55356
Direct Dial: 952.249.4627
Fax: 952.249.4616
Planning &Zoning Office 952.249.4620
Email: mcurtis(aci.orono.mn.us
Website: www.ci.orono.mn.us
City of Orono Office Hours
Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm
From: Yorks, Patricia E [mailto:PYorks@CBBURNET.COM]
Sent: Tuesday, October 30, 2012 7:24 PM
To: Melanie Curtis
Cc: Tim Line; Lorie Line
Subject: 4415 Forest Lake Landing
Thank you Melanie for the letter clarifying the approved uses of the Right of Way next to 4415 Forest Lake Landing. I
have attached the approval letter outlining the uses for the Right of Way that the Line's have provided me with. I am
confused because they do not match what you sent me. It appears that this issue was discussed and resolved
previously. In their letter from the city, the acceptable uses are pedestrian uses only, fishing and launching a canoe or
other small boats not using a trailer. It appears that pedestrian uses would not include swimming, boating, snowmobiles
as your letter states.
Perhaps you have a different document as to what the city council has approved? Let me know.
1
