Newell Weed, 1385 Orono Lane - PID #02- 117 -23 34 0003. Mr. <br />Weed noted that he has introduced an amendment to the <br />Legislature that states that a person (over 55 or over 65 - <br />at their discretion) who has owned and occupied their home <br />for 10 years or more and the valuation has gone up over 3 <br />times the purchase price, the property taxes cannot exceed <br />6% of the property owners gross income minus your income <br />taxes paid to the State of Minnesota and the federal tax <br />paid in that year. Mr. Weed would like the Mayor and <br />Councilmembers of Orono to adopt a resolution supporting his <br />amendment and send it on to the appropriate Representatives. <br />Mr. Weed noted that this amendment only applies to a small <br />number of the people but it prevents senior citizens from <br />loosing their homes because of taxation.
