Y, <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR ORONO COUNCIL MEETING HELD MARCH 17, 1987 <br />POLICE INTERN REQUEST <br />Councilmember Peterson asked what the City's liability <br />is regarding the internship program. City Administrator <br />Bernhardson stated that in this particular case, the <br />school is covering the liability and the City is <br />responsible for workers compensation coverage. <br />Councilmember Callahan noted in reviewing the Orono <br />Police activity report the overall increase in offenses <br />from last year. <br />Chief Kilbo explained the reasons being that the general <br />crime rate has increased 12 - 19% and because the <br />department has three additional personnel, more <br />violations are being cited. <br />It was moved by Councilmember Peterson, seconded by <br />Councilmember Goetten, to approve the internship of <br />Kevin Walsh with the Orono Police Department starting <br />May 11, 1987 for a three month period. Motion, Ayes 5, <br />Nays 0. <br />WESTONKA SENIOR FUNDING REQUEST <br />Councilmember Peterson asked if the Seniors <br />automatically get the block grant funds, if not, where <br />do they go f or f unds. <br />City Administrator Bernhardson explained that this is a <br />discretionary funding request and if not approved, the <br />seniors must apply for funding elsewhere. <br />It was moved by Councilmember Peterson, seconded by <br />Councilmember Callahan, to approve the funding request <br />of the Westonka Senior Citizens for an amount of <br />$5,000.00 and to approve the City of Mound applying for <br />the funding for Mound, Spring Park, Minnetrista and <br />Orono to the Discretionary fund of the Community <br />Development Block Grant Program. Motion, Ayes 5, Nays <br />0. <br />STEP SALARY INCREASE - OFFICER IR©ING ENGLISH* <br />It was moved by Councilmember Sime, seconded by <br />Councilmember Peterson, to approve a monthly increase <br />for Officer English from $2,027 to $2,280 per month <br />effective February 11, 1987.
