• MINUTES OF THE REGULAR ORONO COUNCIL MEETING HELD DECEMBER 8, 1986 <br />COMMENDATIONS: <br />MIKE AITCHISON - RESOLUTION #2090 <br />WAYNE QUASI - RESOLUTION #2091 <br />OFFICER KIRNYCZUK - RESOLUTION #2092 <br />CAROL HANSING - RESOLUTION #2093 <br />OFFICER CORNICK - RESOLUTION #2094 <br />OFFICER HENSEL - RESOLUTION #2095 <br />Chief Kilbo noted that Mike Aitchison and Carol Hansing <br />were unable to attend the presentation. <br />City Administrator Bernhardson presented the following <br />Commendations: <br />Citizen Commendation to Wayne Quast, an Orono City <br />employee, commending him for his brave and selfless <br />actions in noticing and reporting a fire and, <br />together with Mike Aitchison, effecting the rescue <br />of the house occupant on November 19, 1986. <br />Special Commendation to Officer James Cornick <br />commending him for his expert actions on November <br />11, 1986 in an attempted suicide, organizing a <br />search and his excellent handling of the person in <br />talking him out of the suicide, which resulted in <br />the individual being able to be turned over to <br />professional help.. It was noted that Police <br />Secretary Carol Hansing was key in this incident and <br />will be presented her commendation at the next <br />Council meeting. <br />Special Commendation to Officer Mike Kirnyczuk <br />commending him for his assistance in effecting a <br />cross country arrest in Florida of an escaped <br />prisoner from Washington State prison recognizing it <br />as an outstanding achievement demonstrating Officer <br />Kirnyczuk's level of initiative and perserverance. <br />Special Commendation to Officer Mary Hensel <br />recognizing her initiative for excellent performance <br />and upgrade of the "Officer Friendly" program as a <br />means of reaching children in their formative state <br />to develop a positive image of the role of Police in <br />society. It was noted that Officer Hensel has now <br />taken over the City's Reserve program also. <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES * <br />It was moved by Mayor Butler, seconded by Councilmember <br />Grabek, to approve the Minutes of the November 24, 1986 <br />regular Council meeting as submitted. Motion, Ayes 5, <br />Nays 0. <br />PARK COMMISSION COMMENTS <br />There were no comments from the Park Commission. <br />PLANNING COMMISSION COMMENTS <br />There were no comments from the Planning Commission. <br />4 <br />
